Periodontal Therapy

Healthy gums are part of a beautiful smile. During our comprehensive exams, we’ll review your periodontal health and assess your risk of gum disease, one of the leading causes of adult tooth loss. Plaque, a sticky, colorless film, can develop on your teeth, and bacteria can form. If plaque isn’t removed effectively, it can harden into tartar and cause swollen, bleeding gums and receding gum lines. We use root planing and scaling to remove plaque and tartar from the gum line and if you have exposed root surfaces, we’ll use GLUMA desensitizer to reduce any unwanted cold or touch sensitivity. For patients with moderate to severe gum disease, we prescribe Arestin, a medication which improves gum pocket depth and restores a balance of healthy bacteria to your mouth. We will formulate a home care regimen specific to your needs.
